Community resistance to airport expansion in Scotland

The Scottish government seeks to triple the capacity of Edinburgh and Glasgow airports in its imminent National Planning Framework 2, and seeks to greatly restrict communities’ freedom to lodge objections.  The Real Consultation seeks to protect this freedom, whilst challenging unsustainable aviation expansion, the UK’s fastest-growing source of greenhouse-gas emissions.

There is a need for full-time staff to work alongside local communities directly affected by these airports, to help set up more permanent community-based organisations. Through community-led information gathering TRC will facilitate community responses to be published and sent to the Scottish Government, local and national environmental organisations and community groups.

This will be the first step in empowering local communities to develop their own campaigns, through consensus, in the fight to prevent the expansion proposals.
