To tackle the real causes of climate change we need a new and honest media, unfettered by bureaucracy or political persuasion

To tackle the real causes of climate change we need a new and honest media, unfettered by bureaucracy or political persuasion.

Undercurrents is an award winning charity which produces and distributes videos reflecting the UK and global counter-culture. Established in 1993 it offers support and training to groups and individuals for social and environmental change and works with activists marginalised or overlooked by TV broadcasters. It has been very successful at distributing activist videos, DVDs and is about to launch its own internet IPTV channel, VisiononTV.

On the Push – A Surfer’s Guide to Climate Change – is a new 50 minute documentary film addressing issues around climate change in a coastal environment. It is available for screening in your community/school and also as clips on the internet www.onthepush.org.

The film takes the viewer on a journey through Wales, Cornwall, Spain and Switzerland, meeting surf scientists and activists and asking key questions about the impact of climate change on the coastal environment.

As part of this project, Welsh producer/directors, Helen Iles and Anne Gallagher are carrying out an educational tour for young people aged 11-19, screening the film and running workshops in basic filmmaking. What would you like to say if you were given a platform to say it?

Some of the screenings/workshops will be held in an innovative mobile solar cinema, which operates on renewable energy and is an ideal way to communicate the conservational message of the film.

If you would like to take part in these workshops, contact helen@undercurrents.org or ring the Undercurrents office 01792 455900.

“This grant from APE will ensure that the final product has a professional finish, essential if the film is to be effective in both entertaining and educating.” On the Push
