STOP CLIMATE CHAOS

SCC is developing a targeted grassroots strategy to run up to and beyond the 2015 general election in 50 priority constituencies: including those of key decision makers and influencers and some marginal seats.

Stop Climate Chaos (SCC) coalition is the UK’s largest group of people dedicated to action on climate change and limiting its impact on the world’s poorest communities. Our combined supporter base of more than 11 million people spans over 100 organisations, from environment and development charities to unions, faith, community and women’s groups. Together we demand practical action by the UK to keep global warming as far as possible below the 2 degrees C danger threshold.

Our Regional Grassroots Networks Development Project, part-funded by Artists Project Earth, is designed to enable and empower activists and supporters to put pressure on UK politicians in key constituencies. We want to ensure that these politicians are informed, empowered and encouraged to support effective climate change solutions, knowing that a representative proportion of their constituents support positive action on climate change.

Working with communities all over the UK is key to SCC successWorking with communities all over the UK is key to SCC success Working together to achieve a common goal is one of the most effective things we can do as a movement. Our project supports and encourages local networks of concerned groups to come together and unite for a common purpose. We provide training, guidance, support, and develop networking opportunities for a coalition of groups to come together in 50 key constituencies across the English Regions. We work with these local networks to identify sympathetic partners and allies within their wider communities, to ensure that our politicians are left in no doubt that climate change is an issue which concerns a broad and diverse cross-section of society.

By working together as local networks we aim to ensure that politicians use their position and influence to shape and deliver positive policies and strategies which will enable us to combat climate change, and to support communities across the globe to adapt to the unavoidable impacts already being felt.

Our local networks across the regions have the support of our climate change experts to help inform and direct their lobbying work, and are provided with opportunities to take both easy creative actions and in-depth campaigns on climate change, and receive support, resources and training to become more confident and skilled at influencing politicians

We are particularly pleased to have received funding from Artists Project Earth which will help to develop and support our emerging networks in the North West and Yorkshire and Humber regions in particular.
